Blender's Rigify for hands/arms

What do you guys use when rigging/animating first-person hands and arms in Blender? A custom rig or Rigify? I've tried using Rigify, but it seems to be so focused on full-body animation that it is very hard to place the fingers were i want them and position guns on the hands.

Unfortunately, i don't know how i could do better myself. Any good tutorials on the subject, focusing on Blender?
