ZBrush 2.5D drop to canvas depth offset issue [Fixed]

I'm running into an issue when working with the 2.5D tiling texture method in zbrush. When I drag tools to the canvas and position them, they look fine but when I exit edit to drop them to the canvas they often times jump from the depth I placed them at, above, below, or strangely intersecting other meshes that have already been added to the canvas. 

I imagine there is some snap toggle or depth setting that I may be missing. Anyone have any ideas?

    Figured it out. It appears that going straight from 2.5 edit to draw (Q) instead of edit on/off (shortcut T twice) fixes this. All the tutorials I found for this workflow just say hit edit twice, but if you're dumping meshes on top of meshes this seems to eventually cause problems with the depth perception.
