Eyes for games, whats the best method?

So Ive been looking for a way to improve my characters eyes and fix that dead-eye stare.

They are just so fake looking and have GOT to go.
Ive been looking for some help and tutorials but they all focus on high poly modeling, never concerned about UV layouts or how to apply any of these techniques for games. I want to try emulate Pixars eyes. I understand the modeling but the material setup is really vexing.

The main issue is the scalera. The transparent part. It looks fine from any angle apart from the side.

Its just flat, isnt the scalera meant to be reflective? That would fix the flat eye issue right?

I wonder is maya even right for this? Since this is meant for games would I be able to import it into UE4 or should I make my eye in other software?
