I originally wanted to make Pancho Villa, but I decided to go in the direction of making one of his rebels because I could have more freedom with the character.  I spent a few days in Marvelous Designer to get a good base down. I always spend more time that I should in MD to get really fine wrinkles on the clothing so I do less on the back end inside ZBrush.  Working on getting him into ZBrush to start sculpting him up this week.

Continuing along. decided to work on the face rather than do it last like I always do.

Retopo and bake today.  Really very happy with how it baked out! 2k map. Uvs below.  There are some topology things I need to address and change, shading errors aplenty.  5.6 tris for the head only. eyes are not optimized. Toolbag 2. Normal and AO.



Uvs Im putting the teeth and mouthbag on and if I can squeeze it the hair too, though thats still up for debate.

Worked in Substance painter for the skin maps.  Hand painted everything.  I have a pretty good feel going for what I want to accomplish but still need to push it.  I think more red in the cheeks? ears need a lot of love.. some other minute things too. eyes next.

Finally got Toolbag 3. Kick ass program!  Adjusted the textures around.  Still need some details on it.  Eyes, hair and mouthbag next.

redid the basemesh, the bake, and the textures. I have eyes halfway done, parallax is on but I need to texture it.  Still working out the small details in substance getting pimples, grime, and freckles/moles done.

more editing.  more stuff done. playing with pores, pimples and razor burn.  the eyes are still a wip. working to get the whites of the eyes to be less bright.

Pretty good face so far. I like the personality he is putting off. The skin is looking a tad too pinkish. I'm not sure if its the lighting or the textures but you may want to go with a more tan skin tone, similar to what you had earlier in this thread.

Thanks! I think i got a good mix of skin tone for now.  Substance has been chugging since I have so much going on in it so changes are few and far between. I wish they could cache or flatten layers!

Retopo and bake has been slow and hard but the results I think are paying off! Textures need some more work. coming together

The textures on that face are lookin real nice. I'm learnin myself, but it looks tight to me!

very beautiful! it would be cool to see him with a cut/split lip. if he's out in the sun his lips are probably going to be a bit chapped.

@Tectonic Thank you! Definitely something I've been thinking about doing.  It was part of my original plan and may still come in when I finalize him.

Okay so I went back through the clothing and changed the shirt and added a vest.  Im a lot happier with the results and how the textures are reading so far. Still going to tweak and push where I can. Sombrero is axed for now, I'll probably change it again.  I want him to have a head piece but I also really like the rim light on his face. If only marmoset had light linking! Hands are next and then going through the hair process.
