Maya 2017 bevel shortcut creates now object?

Hey when I add a shortcut to bevel it bevels the edge but makes it in a new object does anyone know why? and how to fix it

sorry I meant hotkey but no it only happens when I use the hotkey I already tried three different hotkeys.When I use my shelf button it works fine or when I use in the default tab.

Are you sure you have the correct bevel tool set as a hotkey? I remember running into some issues when I first tried to hotkey it; it was hotkeying the "bevel tool" and not the bevel action itself. But I'm not sure that could cause what you're seeing.
