baking volume data to texture in houdini?

hey
any houdini people know how (or point me in the direction fo a good tutorial) to bake from a volume in houdini to a 3dtexture or 2d flip book that i can convert easily?

i know you can uses the slice tool and convert then sample the geo to bake out a texture then peice all the slices together, but that seems to be an arse end way of doing things when you have an indexed 3d array of values that should be easy to spit into a 3d texture (which is pretty much the same thing)

anyway, not been on polycount for a while thought id ask just incase anyones using houdini around here
