[Question] Regarding Angled Hallways

Does anyone know the best way to go about creating angled hallways like this?:

Do you simply add a triangular shape in between the hallways?

If I simply connect the vertices together the angled hallway becomes thinner than the other hallways:


Is there a better way to create an angled hallway than to add a triangular shape in between them? Thank you.

I'm sure there's some mathematical way to do this... What I usually do is keep the transform on that angled piece, and snap-move in one axis to either the vertex or the grid. There's still a gap, but the proportion has been kept, all that's left to do is move the straight pieces to meet the first verts.

It would help to know what program that is, if it was in max or maya you rotate from the outer corner vertex as a pivot and boolean or wedge face and extrude if you want a soft corner.

the fastest in Max is to isolate the hallway you want to angle, add a symmetry modifier and offset the symmetry.

But there's 100 ways to do this, I'm sure you can figure out one that works for you.

Yes, it's called bisecting the angle. So if the angle is 45 degrees then the 2 pieces will be cut at 22.5 degrees. The reason it becomes narrower when you move the vert is because the edges on the angles are longer than the original perpendicular edges.

As mentioned, there are loads of ways to do it. Angle snap rotate the walls 22.5, vert snap the inner verts together, cut the angle, weld the verts.

Or the easiest way, as @Scruples mentioned, is to rotate the symmetry modifier.

Cut into the short side of the angle hallway where the two parts meet, instead of stretching the longer side. Or, create a separate bend segment to connect them.

Sorry I should have been more elaborate. The screenshots are from Unreal Engine 4. 

I wasn't sure what the best practice for non 90 degree angled rooms/hallway connections. I'll try to experiment with modular pieces.

BSP's can become quite expensive as a level gets more complex. Better off just using them for proxy-blocking until you get your own assets in place.
