Hey guys one of my tasks for my current project is to create background mountains. Similar to this https://www.unrealengine.com/marketplace/background-mountains

What is the best way to approach the actual models themselves. I intend to use World Machine to buy the mountains and try to retopologize in Maya using its tools. Is there a better approach to this? Also whats the pipeline for creating suitable UV's for baking normal maps or just general textures on it? I know you can use a splatmap from WM to determine specific textures but how would it work if i retopologize for LOD system.

    World Machine can export a normal map of your terrain as well as export a mesh. It could be as simple as exporting meshes and simply changing the polycount before export. I haven't tested it though.
    Or you could reduce the lods manually, just make sure you don't mess the uvs up.
