LinkedIn Job History

Is it preferred to only list jobs related to your field in your job history/experience section? I know that's the case when it comes to your resume/portfolio but does it matter on LinkedIn or it is purely personal preference?

If I update my jobs I'll have a mini paragraph under my name for current jobs, 2 outside of the industry and my new one in VFX.

LinkedIn is basically a resume. At least, people will look at it the same way. Tailor it to the position you're seeking, as long as it's truthful.

Yeah, it is not a legally binding document. If you get the job, you will probably have to fill out a legit job history as per the company's paperwork.

Similar to a Resume, like Eric said. Its your professional representation of yourself. If your past experience outside of the industry doesn't add any value to your career there isn't any point to having it there, in my opinion.

The only thing is, some people will look at time gaps in your resume, and wonder what happened there. Good to have an explanation handy for the telephone screen.

As a recruiter I try to initially understand your career path by reading your resume, so it becomes difficult to gauge your interests if you are giving me mixed career choices.

Everyone's pretty covered it but I have two career paths in my LinkedIn which hasn't helped at all as it's confused so many companies.

Despite sending out a CV catered for the particular role, they still found my LinkedIn and pretty much decided I wasn't for them as I've dabbled in another area. Most of the time you have to convince the employer that you really want the job and you won't jump ship...

Just have 2 CVs handy if you're finding it hard to get the role you want and have your LinkedIn what you need for your future career - happy hunting!

For those that have two paths, I wonder if it would be more clear to split them into two profiles? or maybe slow your search down, tailor it to one place apply, wait to hear back then tailor to another and so on?

QA in games is relevant, even if it's localization at least it's a job in the industry.

Not always the case EQ - I have QA experience and always get asked to be a QA before an artist, perhaps I'm just crap though!

Hehe, I'm working as QA Language Lead at the moment and if I change my job, I would want to apply for the artist position and not another QA job.
