Exporting model with polygroups as sperate smoothing groups

I cant seem to find anything on this, but I am trying to export a model from zbrush with multiple polygroups. im fine with when I import into max that it is separate objects for each polygroup, but I do not like that they all share the polygroup of 1 (when I go to weld all the verts its not super smooth. is their away to import all of the polygroups with different smoothing groups?
