Zbrush new dynamesh weirdness

Basically what I would do originally do when I wanted to create a complexed shape in Z brush would be to import multiple meshes and then decimate them together. However ever since Zbrush R7, I found to my displeasure, I would decimate (No matter how high the setting was) Zbrush would decimate it to some crazy high number but the active and total points would stay low (as circled in red) and It would bog down as if it was a crazy high density mesh.

Im not sure if there is a setting I can turn on to avoid this or what but I dont know what to search for in Google to trouble shoot so any help would be appreciated.
