Maya UV Editor face selection problem...

Hiya peeps, has anyone experienced a face selection issue in Maya's UV Editor where you're unable to select back faces? Try as I might I can't seem to do a normal rectangle selection and select all the faces. I'm not sure if I hit some magical hotkey or sommin (which I would immediately delete if the case). Any help would be appreciated. I'm using the latest Maya LT.
I've now driven myself to frustration over this and decided I should ask for help before I get anymore grey hairs.
