Light Tracer: interior AO bake/ limit ray distance?

Hi guys

I have a question which hopefully someone can help me figure out. I have tried many different ways of doing consistent normal and ao baking and repeatedly find default scan line and light tracer in max to be it. Yes it may be slow but i inconsistently get artifacting with mental ray when doing projection baking and getting complex meshes into x normal can be a pain if you need to tweak cages etc.

Anyone. ..The question in hand. While light tracer has no issues when doing external she'll makes (can increase bounces or lower the ground plane to control the ao constrast) I cannot find a way to, in mental ray terms limit the ray distance to do interior AO baking. In Mr you can set the max distance for the ao to be calculated so you can get just the right amount of ao, but can change it for your exterior bake. Is there a way to do it with light tracer? Only thing I can think is move and flip the roof geometry, and possibly increase the intensity of the skylight, but any other suggestions?

Hope I have made sense, typing on the phone is not the best.
