xnormal Artifact

so i've been having this artifact on a character im baking in xnormal for. Its on the ear and it's wierd how it abrubptly ends.

I've done the following to attempt fixing it:

check the high/low
delete the faces and (maya) append polygons back
retope the area again with different topology
checked the UV
flipped the Green channel
checked and move the cage everywhere or expanded it drastically
checked the normals

i just can't seem to fix this artifact O_o anyone have any ideas what it'd be? The character has glasses so it kind of looks like the glasses is projected onto the ear but...i re-exported the high polys making sure i didn't export the glasses with it though. Any input or ideas on why i may be getting this would be great!

Oh and is it wierd that im so opposed to painting out my artifacts/normals? I'm leaning towards doing it for this project but i reaaaallly dont want to paint them out :P
