unpaid work experience

Ok so i've been working on a few team based projects and one of which ended up not working out. Both of these were unpaid so I was wondering how best to include this in my resume (if at all). I also want to know if these would count as viable references.

Yes, as long as everything went smoothly no hickups or negativity then you should be alright.

If you've done something truly worthwhile within that project include it. Format it in the same way as any other job. Experience is experience, though if they failed state it was cancelled.

Some studios (for example, Psyonix), will specifically state under the "work experience" field, that equivalent modding experience will suffice.

I list some mod experience on my resume, interviewers asked me, we talked about it, so if you ask me, I'd say list it and be honest about it. "Project X - a sci-fi western FPS on UDK. My responsibilities were this and that."
