[MAX2013] Create/Put vertex on plane

Hi there,
I was wondering if there's a way to create or put a new vertex on existing geometry? I see that "create face" under Editable Poly's "polygon selection" creates a vertex in a random and unpredicitble place and it isn't working as 3D Coat's brush. The vertices there are "floating" on the mesh - any ideas how to place vertex and move it along the plane in 3DSMax?

Here's a screen with the new mesh I want to create right next to A & B meshes.
