Maya / UDK Orientation issue

Hi all,

I've been running around in circles on this one following various tutorials and just can't fix this issue. The problem is I have my blockout vehicle rig in Maya, following advice:

- It points down positive X and Z is up.
- I've rigged it. Bones have the correct orientation in Maya.
- I've exported it as an FBX.

When I import the model into UDK as a static mesh the orientation is correct the vehicle faces down the X axis. When I import the model as a skeletal mesh it's facing down the negative Y axis !!!!

I presume it's a problem due to the joint/bones in Maya. So I'm now stumped. Any assistance would be greatly appreciated in solving this issue. The vehicle drives but goes sideways when the forward input is pressed.

The image shows my vehicles orientation compared to the UDK vehicle. The image on the right is mine in MAYA with the seemingly correct orientation.
