video Capture/Compression

Hey guys, I'm trying to capture a good quality video, and post it up on youtube. I have a very old version of Camtasia and its frame rate capture, ( even if I turn it up to 60 FPS) sucks at full screen. I have to shrink is do to 800x600 or something like that to get descent frame rate. Lastly, when I do have a video that I am sort of happy with; I try to through it up on youtube and the video goes straight to super lame compression and kills all my colors. Any work around here? I know I've seen fairly good vids on the tubes, so it must be possible. Thanks!

I don't think that even newer versions of camtasia are really good at full screen (beyond 1024) resolutions because it compresses on the go to keep the initial foot print small.
Fraps might be a better solution for full screen or higher res things. But still I believe that camtasia is better than the free camstudio which likes to crash every now and then.

Can't you capture with Camtasia and then compress with something else ?
I personally use StaxRip to compress most of my videos.
