pdf pages to images photoshop automation question

Not really game art related but a quick photoshop question


So at work im dealing with this retarded task of importing pdf files and having to export each one as a .gif named after its page number so they can work in a pop out preview interface on a website

so
[Folder]
-pdffile.pdf
-1.gif
-2.gif
-3.gif

is the hierarchy I need


and so on. I made an action to go ahead and just export without me having to rename it manually, but the problem is they come out like this. (These are the file names photoshop gave each page document, you can see it already has the numbers I need but it has a rather large prefix)

-pdffile-1.gif
-pdffile-2.gif
-pdffile-3.gif

so I had to go through and quickly go down and rename them all, basically removing the pdffile- from each one.


This has turned into an issue because some of these pdf files can have 180+ pages, and we're talking 50-80 pdf files


Im thinking there has to be a better way to do this completely automated, but I couldn't exactly fool around with batch export at work.


Anyone else familiar with this?

cant you just export image from acrobat pro?

it exports numbered images with proper padding for double digit or triple digit sequences.

if you have multiple pdf files then you can combine all in acrobat, then export image.

At this point trying to change my boss's mind about how to go about this may be a bad idea.

I should also add that we're resizing, flattening, and adjusting colors during this process but all of that I know how to do, the renaming is the part im having trouble with.

lol, u want the job done or not ?

if you export from acrobat u can name it as you want, then you can do a batch action in photoshop for rest of adjustments.

anyways, you can also use freeware such as UFU to batch rename

My boss isn't exactly tech savvy and to get any other way past him of doing this hed be very iffy on. But ill try it! But I don't want to count on that idea alone, so I also want to know if its possible in PS


@JR I very rarely work in-office and am not exactly allowed to bring in software because I have no dedicated computer

if your boss isn't tech savvy and not watching over your shoulder while you do this then it is very unlikely that he would know the difference by looking at the end result.

I sit in the same room as them and he does often lol, im only 18

Well, have you tried to choose this option on PS Batch window? It looks like the perfect solution, IMO.

Thats actually what im messing with right now, but it keeps trying to save them as psd's instead of .gifs

You must change the type of file in your action, then.

Ok I got them to export all at once great, but the names are still pdfname-#.gif (which is how I saved it when I recorded the action assuming it would override that naming)

Its ignoring the file naming section. seriel.extension is all I need but its saving it by the PSD document name and not what I specified

anyone know whats up? I really doubt something this simple would be left out of photoshop
