Has anyone tried creating blendshapes for different muscles flexing, and then slaving that to the joint? For example, when you bend the arm at the elbow, the bicep flexes? Or am I already way behind the times for rigging?
I have a limited knowledge of rigging, but I know they have muscle systems which realistically deform the muscles as they move. I don't know much more than that unfortunately.
I am not a rigger but the notion of using blendshapes in conjunction with specific joint rotations is not new. I believe you could easily set this up in Maya with Set Driven Keys or Max with Wire Parameters.
I don't know the particulars of which engines support driving blendshapes by joints vs which ones you'd have to export the joint and BS keys together in, but I'd imagine you could research that if you were interested.
