3DS Max 2012 Problem, Require Assistance!

Well, I have now installed both my original 3DS Max 2012 from Autodesk, to the student version 2012 with no such luck as to solve my problem. I recently had to reformat my computer and everything was fine then. Now it is not with the new versions:
The Problem is that when I press 1-5 which are the shortcut keys on the Editable Poly to choose a sub level, I can always press it once and it will work. So let's say I have verts up, when I press 1 again it will not unhandle
verts making it so I am not looking at verts anymore, and have deselected the sub level.
I could do this easily with my original 3DS Max 2012 copy, so now what is the problem with this? Any help would be greatly appreciated.
